This model originally came in 2011, heavily based on the legendary Sonata, which is one of the most famous models from the Korean manufacturer. While the cloth upholstery is a standard feature, there are also optional leather seats with heating. Other notable standard features are 16-inch alloy wheels, heated side mirrors, parking sensors, climate control etc. On higher trims, you get also power-adjustable seats, leather upholstery, navigation, dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry. Finally, top models add things like lane departure warning, a panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats.

The 2017 Hyundai i40 comes with a choice of five powertrains. There is a base 1.6-liter gasoline engine, which is good for about 135 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque and it comes with a 6-speed manual transmission only. There are two models with a 2.0-liter engine. The first one is good for about 165 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The other one, more powerful, has a max output of 175 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. In both cases, you have a choice between manual and automatic transmission.

The 2017 i40 also comes with a diesel engine. This engine comes in two output variants both of them feature not only great fuel economy but also pretty decent performances. The first one is good for about 115 horses and 192 lb-ft, while the other one is good for 140 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. The first one comes with a 6-speed manual transmission only, while the more powerful variant could be paired with 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic or 7-speed DCT.

The competition in this segment is pretty tough. There are models like Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis, VW Passat and Ford Mondeo. There are also models like Skoda Octavia and Kia Optima, but also premium sedans like BMW 5 Series. When it comes to the price, this model is pretty approachable. Base models are available already at 24.000 dollars. On the other side, fully-equipped models could go all away up to 33.000 dollars.
